The USS Acadia of World War II & two reunions PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 23 June 2010

Alan McLaren Jr. of Arroyo Grande, CA found a journal written by Colonel Thomas B. Protzman while in command of the WW II hospital ship USS Acadia.  Yes, the Acadia name was used for a hospital ship in WW II.  Alan is looking for anyone that is related to Colonel Protzman who would like to have the journal.  Contact Mike Connor in Contact Us and he'll put you in touch with Alan.

During WW II, the Army & Navy had a curious relationship where the Army owned the ships, but the Navy ran them.  They also did things like commission a ship as a "USAHS" and then later change it to a "USS", which was done with the Acadia, among others.  You can read more about it here: http://med-dept.com/hosp_ships.php

Don't forget that there are two reunions coming up in July, one in San Diego July 2nd through the 4th and one in Cleveland, OH July 16 through the 18th.
