This site was put together to accomplish several things: organize reunions, have the cruise books on line for those of us that lost them or just never got one, a big photo gallery, and of course, make it so people can find each other.

This site is NOT associated with ussacadia.COM (this one is .ORG).  The .com site is a simple attempt to shove advertising at people that are looking for old shipmates.  A large percentage of USS ships' names have been abused like this.  The best defense against this kind of squatting is to 1) NEVER go to the squatted site to keep their hit counts low, and 2) if you do go there, DON'T click on anything!  They get money every time something is clicked on, and thus more reason to keep squatting.

 In case you're wondering, this site is currently owned, financed, and administered by Mike Connor, who was an ET on the Acadia from '88 to '93 in both OPS and R-4. If a real live corporation is formed that wants to take over the domain & upkeep, Mike will be happy to hand it over. By the way, the financing part is not a big deal.  The hosting cost of running a site like this is about $100 per year.  However, $10/year is effectively all that it is costs because multiple sites can be hosted on the same hosting account at no extra charge.  Since I already have to host www.ConnorConsulting.NET , UssAcadia.org is basically free, except for the $10/year domain registration. Nice, huh?  If you need hosting & domain registration, BlueHost.com (hosting), GoDaddy.com (registration), and Yahoo.com (registration), all work great.

If you want to help with the site, feel free to jump in.  A new graphics theme would be nice, even just some different banners.  There are a few bells and whistles that could use added as well.    As you can tell by the page footer and various other places, it's Joomla and Community Builder with some customizations & hacks here and there.
