Saving ACADIA - 2008/04/20 15:34
I am willing to get the ball rolling here....
Let's see what we can do, and what it will take, to save our fare ship ACADIA from a watery grave!
Who do we talk to?? Senators and Congressmen, or do we write SecNav and The Commander in Chief??
I personally have sent an email to Sen. John McCain, because he is a veteran and was stationed aboard the USS FORRESTAL during the great fire. The FORRESTAL is one of the ships that is also listed to be "disposed of" alnog with ACADIA.
I also suggest that if you are a member of a Veterans' Organization such as the VFW, AmVets, American Legion, etc... Then write a letter to be published in your magazine/newsletters!!!

Sorry to say that you just can't "Save" the ship. You have to propose that the ship be placed on "Donation Hold" and lobby for a group or some other entity to take her as a museum or another purpose such as was awhile back with the Homeless Shelter. The process takes alot of time and alot of money, none of which AD-42 has. The chances are slim at best because once the plans are in play for the SINKEX, there isn't much anyone can do to stop it. I am currently involved with saving two US Navy Destroyers now. One is the USS Edson (DD-946) and the USS Forrest Sherman (DD-931). The Edson was the Destroyer that sat for the longest time by the USS Intrepid in NYC and the Sherman has been in the Philly Boneyard since the late 1980's. The Edson will probably end up in Sheboygen, WI. and the Sherman is still trying to find a new home. The Sherman Class Destroyers have the best track record for being saved with two more already serving as museums and other functions. They are the USS Barry (DD-933) on the east coast and the USS Turner Joy (DD-951) on the west coast. If you want to know more about the process, you can either contact WINSA or the USS Forrest Sherman Association. Don't get your hopes up, especially with a target date of 2009, it is not likely it will succeed.

This really saddens me. it's like sinking part of my past. Acadia was a great memory for me and it has helped to make me the person that I am today. It's just sad!
