There's an East Coast Reunion Planned...
Thursday, 23 March 2006

Andrea (Brown) West tells me that Shirley James at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it is organizing a reunion June 9th - 11th in College Park, GA .  College Park is an Atlanta suburb by the airport.  Contact Shirley for more info and tell her join this site while you're at it (I'm guessing my email got called spam by hotmail).

In other news, I posted a video clip of the bridge while leaving Hong Kong.  Andrea West, several QM's, and Capt. King, are in it.  You'll need the QuickTime Player from apple.com to play it (it's free); RealMedia Player will play it too, but QuickTime seems to be the least evil choice. I tried to use a Windows Media file, but Windows Media Player wouldn't play it's own file correctly in a browser. The QuickTime video quality is much better anyway (for a given bitrate).

Pics and Email

Gerrit and Pete uploaded awesome pics!   Be sure to take a look!

Also regarding the photo gallery, the database linkage between the main site and the photo gallery is broken (have yet to figure it out), but there seems to be advantages to having two seperated from each other.  So anyhoo, you have to register  with the photo gallery to upload to it.  Just viewing the photo gallery doesn't require any logging in, etc.

If you would like to have a ussacadia.org email address, decide what you would like it to be (example: This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it ), what you want for a password, and send in your request using the "Contact Us" page.  There is both web and POP email access, i.e., you can use something like Outlook, etc., or go via the web (www.ussacadia.org/webmail).

By the way, the drawback of an Acadia address compared to Yahoo or similar is space.  2 megabytes is all the bigger a mailbox can be at the moment (there is only 15 Gig to play with for the whole site).  But as long as you keep it emptied out (Outlook will do it by default) and no one sending you huge attachments, it should be plenty.

Welcome to the USS Acadia web site!
Sunday, 19 February 2006

This website is being created to help put together a reunion and to provide one place for Acadia members to get together.  From my limited research, there are at least 6 websites that Acadia sailors have registered on and none of those sites make a mention of the other sites.

The idea for this site came about when an email about putting together a reunion from Lenny (Arrington Leonard, a former BT) showed up in my mail box via Maria Guzman.  I decided to do my part by putting together the web site to help coordinate it.

On the subject of building a website,
