Pictures from the 2006 Atlanta Reunion
Friday, 03 November 2006

Shirley James sent a link to the pictures of the 2006 Atlanta reunion; go >here< to see them.  Note: the link will be good for only another 80 days, approximately, so if you're reading this a few months from now, it may not work.

As always, if you have photos to share in the photo gallery or anything else you would like to share, please do so.  For details on how to do it, use the "Contact Us" button.

A note on joining the site: when thinking up  a user name (you have a user name and a real name), don't use spaces.  The site will let you, but they tend to cause a lot of trouble when trying to log in.

2007 Atlanta Reunion and Wikipedia
Thursday, 12 October 2006

Shirley James is planning another Atlanta reunion for 2007, give her a shout for more info: mescjames at hotmail dot com.  She said their first one went over very well.

It looks like Jon Hackworth has been working on the USS Acadia page on Wikipedia and he says it could use some more things filled in.  Cruise over to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Acadia to add what you know.

New Web Links section & other stuff
Friday, 29 September 2006

A new section has been added called "Other Ships".  If you want to add links to other ships' web sites, use the "Submit Weblink" button (after you've logged in).  Note that the link you submit will not show up until it is "approved".  The "approval" process is a "built-in" feature of the site software that will likely get removed.

We've had nice growth lately, attaining 100 members about a week ago, and currently adding a person every day or two.  What that means is, the site admin has to get a little busier on things like member search functionality (which is pretty much useless at the moment), and so forth.

The original reunion organizer seems to have become inactive; if any of you San Diegans want to put a reunion together for next summer (since that's the popular idea), feel free.  The Midway (now a floating museum) would probably be a good place to have a dinner, etc.

The site has had a major software upgrade, mainly for security purposes.  If you notice anything that doesn't work or is goofy, please let the site admin know (use the Contact Us button).   Believe it not, the site gets a fair number of hack and/or spam attempts, mostly coming from ex-Communist Bloc countries by way of Korea. It's nearly always the automated type of attack, i.e., a script/program they are running against any site using this particular software.  So far, they've managed only a couple of successful message board spams which were quickly deleted and a couple of  modifications were made to make sure they are never successful again.  Guess those ex-commies have too much time on their hands.
