Two 2007 reunions in the works
Monday, 05 February 2007

Common question is, "why is there two?".  Well, we in the West didn't know about the one in the East until recently.  At this point, we Westerner's are estimating the interest level of a S.D. reunion.  If you are interested in coming to S.D., please vote on a date (even if you don't care which) so that we have an idea of how many will come.

San Diego:  Headed up by Gerrit. Open to anyone who wants to come.  The Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Downtown (The web site is www.marriott.com/sancd) has rooms available the weekend of July 6-8 or July 20-22.  It is the smaller hotel on the corner of 6th and Broadway, next door to House of Blues and two blocks from Horton Plaza.  Here it is on the map.

Rates are high during the summer, I can get a group rate of $159.00 per room, but hey - you're downtown and close to everything. The Marriott's banquet rooms run $35++ (mostly +++ !) per dinner per person, so it would be better get rooms at the Marriott and block a table over at Yardhouse or The Local, which are good little places nearby that won't cost an arm and leg.  For group rooms, I can get a courtesy block for either one of the weekends. The hotel will hold rooms till three weeks before arrival date and release them with no obligation.

My vote is for Saturday, 21 July as July 7th might interfere with people's plans and many people will be traveling.  Regardless of which weekend you choose, I'd like all the votes in by February 16th.

It'll be easy access to everything and a lot of fun.  Check the Discussion Boards for details as they come.

A sweet Social Security deal for Vets
Sunday, 21 January 2007

Shirley James sent this in:

You qualify for a higher social security payment because of your military service, for active duty any time from 1940 through 2001 (the program was done away with in January 2002).
Up to $1200 per year of earnings credit (see below websites for more detail) credited at time of application - which can make a substantial difference in social security monthly payments upon your retirement.

You must bring your DD-214 to the Social Security Office - and you must ask for this benefit to receive it!

Here is the Soc. Sec. website link:  http://www.ssa.gov/retire2/military.htm
