I was stationed on the ship and although I joyfully found out I was going to start a family I missed the 90-91 cruise. I would love to have a cruise book to show where the ship went and the sights you were all able to see. The internet is good but the book would be the best. So... if you have the book,it is collecting dust, you haven't touched it in years, and you have a big heart please contact me so I can be a part of something I missed. It was the only ship I was stationed on in my 4 year enlistment. Please consider it. Many thanks! sparkyallen1@aol.com

Hey Jeff,

It's Okay. The little Homeless shelter for 13 years thing was a joke directed at our friend from Tennessee. You can calm down now. However, I feel it should not be used for a shelter and I'll just leave it at that. Have a nice day.

she was a homeless shelter for 13 years. i think we all took up some type of a residency there ??it may be a good idea it may not be,
either way someone should get some quality use out of her.she just rusting away in pearl. :)

Let's face it folks, the ship really is just a collection of metal and paint with no job. If some family can find refuge in it, they too become part of its history and legacy. Better than becoming recycled steel, artificial reef or new weapon test sitting duck.

As one of the sailors that spent years on the Acadia, 2 westpac (85 and 87)was part of the rebuilding of USS Stark, I would rather see her sank under a salvo of weapons fire or sunk as a reef than turning that grand old lady into something that she was never meant to be, a homeless shelter. She was my first love, she showed me sights i will never forget, met people who touched my life to this day. So I for one wish the navy bring her back to service or sink her, nothing more nothing less.

THIS SUBJECT PULLS THE HEART STRINGS IT HURTS TO SEE HER THE WAY SHE IS RIGHT NOW RUSTING A WAY NOT BEING USED & IT DOES SEEM DEGRADING TO USE HER AS A HOMELESS SHELTER BUT MAYBE SOME GOOD CAN COME OUT OF IT. THERE IS A LOT OF IFs IN THE PLANS & COST A LOT OF MONEY I DONT REALY SEEING IT HAPPENING..SHE WILL ALWAYS BE SOMTHING SPECIAL TO ME NO MATTER WHAT MM3 BOB WILLIAMS

If it's all the same to you, I'd rather see her shot full of holes. I maybe one of the few who would happen to think that using the Acadia as a homeless shelter is demeaning and degrading. I think some of the crewmembers on board the USS Stark would think the same.

SHE WAS THERE FOR THE USS STARK IN 87& IF THIS IS THE ONLY THING THEY CAN COME UP WITH THEN ITS BETTER THAN USING IT FOR TARGET PRACTICE OR SCRAPPING IT MORE POWER TO THEM FOR A GOOD USE BOB W.

I was just on Foxnews.com and there was an article about turning the Acadia into a Homeless Shelter.
It would be a better fate than turning her into razor blades.

looking through old tendergrams brought back so many memories. i can still feel myself in the offiv\cers galley and out on deck while being underway. The fondest memory, crossing the line and becoming a shellback. that was the greatest feat ever done. 92-94 were the best years of my life. I miss it everday.
