USS Acadia groups on FaceBook |

The USS Acadia has found its way to FaceBook.com. There are atleast 2 groups so far with about 25 people each (I joined both). If you haven't gotten on FaceBook yet, might as well jump on the bandwagon while the trend is hot. FaceBook is pretty cool and strangely addictive. To find the Acadia groups, join FaceBook, and search for "USS Acadia" (no quotes). Atleast two will come up.

Sent in by Andrea West:
The Acadia 1st reunion will be held in San Diego, CA August 14-16. Please make plan to attend this event. It will not cost you a dime to attend, it will be free. I will provide all the food for the cookout at one of the parks in San Diego but will not cook it.
The hotel will be of your choice which will cost you. We will be working on getting a hotel at a reasonable rate. Feel free to look around. Family member are welcome. We all were station there at one time and know the area well along with what San Diego has to offer, so plan your family event.
We will be working on getting a club so that we all can dance some and drink, while talking about the good old days on the ship and where we are now. Keep in mind this is a free event. All suggesting are welcome. More updates to come.
Thank you

Kevin Ivey sent in a link that details the Navy's ship disposal plans. Sure enough, the Acadia and several others will be home to the fishes and various other creatures sometime next year. Exactly why some are sunk and others scrapped isn't explained. Perhaps some ships are thought too good to become yet another product of China.
